First Impressions of the Dental Office

The saying is true, first impressions are the most important. It is such a shame though that in most businesses, not just dental, the first impression people get is less than stellar. What is even worse, is that business owners don't recognize that they leading the charge in ruining their business, before it even gets started. Imagine with me if you will, a patient walks into your office. The front desk doesn't make the experience memorable, the hygienist doesn't' either, and she barely gets to talk to you. This patient receives services, was treated professionally, but it was just another appointment.

Now, that same patient goes to work, her co-worker is going on and on about the AMAZING experience she received at her dentist office - guess who will be heading there next time? Your patient!

You didn't do anything wrong. Your office is clean. Your staff was polite. You valued her time, but she wasn't given platinum service. She did not leave with anything more, than polished teeth and recall appointment (that she won't keep).

You see, people like a great experience. It doesn't matter if it is shopping for shoes or getting our teeth clean. You have to make that first impression the best one ever! Everyone needs to be on their A Game, so that when the patient leaves they are excited to go talk about the amazing experience they had.

A few tips:

Your front desk should stand, offer their name and smile!

Offer water, or another beverage after their appointment.

Ask questions - learn about this new patient!

A warm blanket, on a cold winter day goes along way.

Stop thinking that this is just dentistry, and WOW your patients. Create a lasting impression with them, so they can't imagine going anywhere else.
